Considered to be the harder 5 miler in the area!
The course consists of 5.25 miles with 302 feet of elevation change confined mostly to the first half of the course.
There are some formidable hills to tackle before letting you ride a nice tapered downhill to the finish (we think you'll enjoy the fast finish)! With only 5 turns, ample signage, and even volunteers at each turn, there's no concern of getting off course.
There will be 2 water stations on the course along with bananas! Local Dalton Police will help in managing traffic for the duration of the race.
This course contains some of the most beautiful roads and countryside views in our area and is very picturesque running!
Location: 18 & West Market Street, Pottsville, PA 17901

Boy Scout Troop 407 is planning the 14th Annual Pleasant Mount Firecracker 5K Race!
For Troop 407, this event is an annual fundraiser to support our scouts and their participation at summer camp. This 6-day camp helps our scouts with their physical, social and mental development. Young people are our future - and scouting plays an integral role in developing our young scouts into tomorrow's community leaders. For many of our families, the cost of camp is prohibitive and so we work to support this very important experience for our scouts.
Equally important, the Firecracker 5K kicks off the Fourth of July celebration in Pleasant Mount, PA. Following the race, our community comes together for a wonderful holiday parade, followed by festivities and celebration at the Pleasant Mount Community Center. Anyone who has attended in years past knows that our Independence Day represents the heart and soul of small town USA.
Participants are able to choose to run or walk the event course. However, all participants must be able to complete the event within one hour, as our parade day immediately follows.

Michael aka "Chip" Cawley lived a life full of passion and perseverance. Whether it was fishing at every river and lake he came across, snowboarding with his buds, going on hikes, riding on his quad, or golfing with his poppy, he lived true to himself. Curious about the world, Michael strived to learn about various interests. He was a graduate of Valley View High School and Marywood University with a Bachelor's of Science in Biology. While at Valley View, he was a member of the wrestling and soccer teams. He was also trained by Greg Mancuso as a kickboxer at Northeast Karate. He never limited himself and always accomplished his dreams. Some of his many including excelling at his new job and buying a house. He saw people for who they were and treated everyone with kindness and humility. He loved all animals especially his boxer doggos. He was a caring son and enjoyed spending time with his parents Stacey & Brett. After recently being diagnosed with epilepsy, Michael passed away unexpectedly at work from a grand mal seizure on February 23, 2023.
Michael's unconditional love transcends this universe. His legacy will live on through us & with us. We are raising funds to make a difference in the lives of people living with epilepsy. All donations will support the following beneficiaries; Camp Freedom, Adopt a Boxer Rescue, Griffin Pond Animal Rescue, and Valley View Wrestling Scholarships.
Thank you for your love and support,
The Cawley Family

This event was once a qualifier for World Championships and attracted athletes from all over the US, including professionals like Lance Armstrong and Mike Pigg.
